Graphic Design
While my area of emphasis at Otis College of Art and Design was Illustration, the program encompassed intensive study and application of graphic design fundamentals. I fell in love with typography and book layout while I was in school — a skill set I have used frequently as an agency graphic designer for marketing materials, digital and print proposals, and internal presentations. I have extensive experience designing with computer and phone screens in mind, as well as large-scale environmental graphics that must be incorporated with existing surroundings. I have a production-oriented process for all projects, and always have in mind how the deliverable will be produced, seen, and experienced.
Between the realms of graphic design and my illustration practice, I am particularly adept at logo design. As an extension of the logo itself, I enjoy the development of a full visual identity system including style guides, color palettes, icon design, and templates. I am accustomed to working within an existing brand aesthetic while elevating and clarifying visual materials, as well as creating a brand ID from scratch.
My agency experience in public transportation graphics, as well as an Otis-led collaboration with the Center for the Partially Sighted in Culver City has impressed upon me the importance of accessibility in graphic design. My approach for public-facing work is to never let the pursuit of a given aesthetic negate the need for clarity and efficiency in communication, particularly with regard to making content accessible to people of all levels of physical ability and linguistic needs. I also have experience with graphic design materials translated across several different languages and am familiar with the particulars of adjusting designs to suit the needs of the text.
